Playlist: Internal by Angel Olsen
"Everyone I know has got their own ideal
I just want to be alive, make something real"
B efore Angel Olsen made waves with her music, she was touring the area with Bonnie "Prince" Billy and the Cairo Gang on backing vocals. "My Woman" is her third album, on which the indie-folk hope from St. Louis, Missouri, should not only compete with the retro queen Lana Del Rey thanks to songs like "Intern". The lyrics also give some of the wrong developments in our society the necessary musical reward.
In times when a flawless complexion, well-trained body and the most expensive it-bag seem to determine the conversation, Olsen's "Intern" gives the gentle wake-up call. Without loud protests, the 29-year-old reminds us in the almost two-minute piece that we are already pretty perfect without all these rather superficial #lifegoals. Whether we wear a tinsel wig, like the performer, or leave the house with lipstick lightly smudged. Just be you!
Because Angel Olsen whispers phrases like "Doesn't matter who you are or what you do" over the harmonic beats, her message gains even more importance and poignancy. Raw talent, far from any hype - with this secret recipe, Olsen, who would have liked to live in the 1930s or 1950s, is conquering new fans all over the world.
