It had become really quiet around the American singer and songwriter Hope Sandoval, whom we had come to know and love as the voice of Mazzy Star. And who also provided velvety, sophisticated pop with her band The Warm Inventions. However, she never completely disappeared from the scene. The last album of their new formation was “Through the Devil Softly” in 2009 and in 2013, after a long break, a new work with MazzyStar was released: “Seasons Of Your Day”. Hope was also extremely busy with other projects, including songs with Air, The Chemical Brothers and Massive Attack. For the latter she sang, among other things, the title “Paradise Circus”, which may be known to some as the intro to the British hit series “Luther”.
But the wait is over: On April 16th, of all times, Record Store Day, which celebrates independent record stores, we received a two-song single with the tracks “Isn't it True” and “She's in the Wall”, which Hope Sandoval (born 1966) recorded with Colm. Wonderfully dreamy dream pop that is reminiscent of a warm summer evening on a roof terrace in Barcelona, Brooklyn or Berlin. High above the maze of the city, the hustle and bustle and narrowness. Only lovely people around you, a cool drink, looking at the horizon. Plus these soft sounds full of melancholy and hope and talent, as an endless loop until the city awakens to lively, loud life again the next morning. And the I-pod needs to be charged. Thank you, Hope !
