Nicht lange her, da nannten Designer und Modelabel ihre Zwischenkollektion im Winter noch „Cruise Collection“, schließlich war deren Lebensraum einmal klar von Bug bis Heck definiert: Diese Mode sollte die High Society kleiden, die auf Kreuzfahrtschiffen überwinterte. Dicke Mäntel, Muff und gefütterte Boots wären da eher unpassend, es sei denn das Ziel der Reise wäre Alaska gewesen. Traditionell hatten die Ateliers Amerikaner am Mittelmeer vor Augen. Überhaupt war diese anspruchsvolle Klientel im November, spätestens aber im Dezember den Outfits der Saison Fall/Winter reichlich überdrüssig und verlangte schon vor dem Eintreffen der Sommerkollektion nach neuen Looks für den Kleiderschrank. Eine pre-season eben, zu der sich später noch ein Spätsommer oder Frühherbst gesellte, die Pre-Fall Collection.
Gerade zu Beginn dieses Trends konnte man als Kundin oft nur zwischen maritimer Zurückhaltung und teils kitschiger Exotik wählen, mittlerweile jedoch ist die stilistische Bandbreite der nun Resort genannten Entwürfe so immens wie die Destinationen, an denen sie getragen werden. Mehr noch: „dank“ klimatischer Umbrüche bieten Pre-Fall und Resort Collections – salopp auch als Sofort-Anzieh-Mode bezeichnet – wichtige Ganzjahresstücke, die auch an Land und ohne Urlaub richtig Spaß machen.
